The colours of Fall

21 Oct 2014                                                            9 Oct 2014

I started noticing that the colours of Fall don't seem to be as widespread as I remember from last year. Trees just seem to be going brown and dropping their leaves. After a tip from a friend and a bit of research, turns out that many things effect fall colours, one of which is soil moisture, which causes the leaves to drop early!  Apparently we had a dry summer, which may mean our Fall foliage isn't as spectacular. http://www.fs.fed.us/fallcolors/2014/science.shtml
The photos above are not taken on the same date - we have another 11 days, but my observation is, the leaves at the bottom of the tree this year are not turning red, they're turning brown. I'll try to remember to take a photo in 11 days to show a true comparison.

The fountain near work

Fountain is closed for the season...Beautiful day, sunny but not too hot. Great for a jog. Loving this bit of the year.

Gardening - planting our 'mums!

This is the boys mixing some good soil into our front garden, in preparation for the planting our our 'mums - which are behind them on the step.

Beautiful Tree

We went for walk after the school bus run and found the one tree around the place that got the memo about Fall.

Fall has started!

This is my favourite stretch of path. Always peaceful and beautiful, and starting to be dappled with yellow foliage!

Birthday Cake

So, this birthday cake was organised by Mr 6, for his dad. I made a bad attempt at boiled chocolate cake, and we put cream and fall coloured M&Ms on, with one strawberry in the middle for the birthday Man (probably the last of the strawberries for the season, sniff).
We also had meat pies (found in our supermarket, expensive, only two per packet). Very tasty. The kids were suspicious.
I forgot to take a photo of the cooked version. The uncooked version is not very appetising.

Splashing in puddles

What is better than splashing in puddles? Splashing in puddles on the bike.
It has basically rained for a week thanks to a 'nor easter sitting off the coast, and then the outskirts of the weather from Hurricane Joaquin, that didn't end up being a problem at all for our part of the world, except that we had to postpone family photos.
